Kennedy Bakery
Live in the moment as the past defines your future, and embrace the memories, which comprise your own historical fiction.
Somewhere at the intersection of Americana and folk rock lies Kennedy Bakery - standing with thumbs turned up to the blue sky waiting to take you on a journey through the worn seams of simple harmonies entangled with melodic overture long forgotten within the landscape of independent music.
With their new EP Historical Fiction, Kennedy Bakery delves into the intricacies of everyday life with an enveloping consistency of three-part harmonies knotted around finely honed lyrics. Craftsmanship defines each song, lying in wait with surprising instrumental work popping into the foreground.
“None of the songs are purely autobiographical, but most of them are based on something or somewhere or someone,” said Erin Rodgers, lead singer and guitarist for the four-person band. “It makes it hard to pick a favorite - that’s like asking which child is your favorite. I might have one, but I wouldn’t want to hurt the others’ feelings.”
Years of creating music on any instrument the various band members could find throughout their childhoods, the strong reverence for classically crafted music is inherent to Kennedy Bakery’s sound.
“We find inspiration everywhere. We’re constantly fascinated by the smallest things, and easily inspired,” said Rodgers. “I recently wrote a song based on something I saw on a library shelf. ‘Hello’ was written while I waited for my tire to be repaired. If you’re receptive to inspiration, you’ll find it everywhere. I sound like a hippie, or like I just watched American Beauty.”
Historical Fiction takes you back to forgotten sounds and memories and positions you squarely on the backyard swing, kicking the sky and wishing for more.
